STRAFE

STRAFE is the fastest, deadliest, most adjective-abusing, first-person shooter of 1996.

Strafe is a first-person shooter video game developed by Pixel Titans and published by Devolver Digital. As a Scrapper on a impossibly dangerous mission at the edge of the galaxy, you only have one life to navigate all the nightmarish terrains of STRAFE®. When you die, nothing will ever be the same again. The game is an homage to 1990s first-person shooter video games, such as Doom and Quake, advertised as to have “bleeding edge graphics and gameplay”, citing the year 1996. It was released on May 9, 2017. Strafe includes four unique zones (three levels each) that demand different death-defying gameplay styles, gun upgrades that turn your average tool of death into an outright Holocaust machine and 30+ insane weapons and 20+ blood-thirsty enemies.

STRAFE Review

7 Total Score
Good

Strafe is a first-person shooter. The game wears its influences on its sleeve but stands on its own as a fun, intense, and fast-paced shooter with distinguishable charm. The player's job as a scrapper is to collect scrap (an in-game currency) for use in recycling facilities. Sent by an unnamed party to the edges of space where 'no communications will reach', your scouting ship sets out to join the spacecraft Icarus. However, once the player arrives on Icarus, they find that something on-board has gone awry. Weapons at the player's disposal will include shotguns, machine guns and railguns. Merchants will appear, whom the player can buy upgrades from. The levels in the game are semi-procedurally generated. It has the replayability and difficulty of a perma-death roguelike wrapped in the style and attitude of a classic nineties shooter. If you’re looking for a challenging, retro-style FPS that takes no prisoners, STRAFE has you covered.
