Batman: The Enemy Within – The Telltale Series

The Riddler has returned to terrorize Gotham City, but his gruesome puzzles merely foreshadow an even greater crisis.

Batman: The Enemy Within is an episodic point-and-click graphic adventure video game developed and published by Telltale Games and distributed by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. In this latest chapter from the award-winning studio behind Batman – The Telltale Series, both Bruce Wayne and Batman will be forced into precarious new roles. The Riddler has returned to terrorize Gotham City, but his gruesome puzzles merely foreshadow an even greater crisis. The game features a similar episodic format found in other past Telltale titles (such as The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands), where the story is affected by both the dialogue and action choices of the player during quick time events. With the arrival of a ruthless federal agent and the return of a still nascent Joker, Batman must navigate uneasy alliances while Bruce Wayne undertakes a perilous series of deceptions. The game has similar maturity to its prequel, Batman: The Telltale Series, and most of Telltale’s games.

Batman: The Enemy Within – The Telltale Series Review

8.8 Total Score
Very Good

Batman: The Enemy Within really begins to delve into the mind of Bruce Wayne and finds him fighting both against outside forces and his own guilt as he struggles to remain the force for good that he intended to be. The action works when called upon, the story really tries to expand on Batman’s world, and the new relationship mechanics add another layer to interactions. It drags Bruce and Batman further down into the murky grey area that he inhabits, keeping players constantly guessing as to whether or not they’re doing the right thing and bringing relationships new and old into the foreground. Players will be instantly hooked on the drama, and will be dying to see what happens next. The Enigma is a successful opening chapter to a Batman story that's shaping up to be more ambitious than anything Telltale attempted in the first season. If you played the first season, there’s absolutely nothing that should keep you from this one.
